Saxophone Projects and Performances

Concerto for Soprano Saxophone and Wind Ensemble (Piano Reduction)

Recorded/Performed December 18th, 2023

This wonderful concerto was one of the first classical saxophone pieces I experienced as a child, and that performance with Don Fabian and the Dallas Winds changed my life. Now that I am older, I decided to tackle this daunting concerto and create my own interpretation of this piece. This performance landed me in the final round of the Paranov Concerto Competition. I hope you enjoy this video of my performance with my wonderful pianist, Elisabeth Tomczyk.

Apparitions

Performed/Recorded September 22nd, 2023

This eerie composition sounds like it comes straight out of a horror movie, and I love it. The piece is built upon modulated saxophones in the backing track, aptly coined by Ed Martin, the composer, as “ghost saxophones.” This was the second piece in my second Master’s recital, which was fully comprised of electroacoustic compositions.

My Mountain Top

Performed/Recorded September 22nd, 2023

This electroacoustic piece by Andy Scott is set to a poem read alongside the performance through the backing track. It is a very meditative experience, and I enjoyed working on it. This was the first piece in my second Master’s recital, which was fully comprised of electroacoustic compositions.

//Demon

Performed/Recorded Live at SPLICE Institute 2023

This collaboration was fueled by my emerging interest in electroacoustic music, so when the opportunity arose to work with Cameron Johnston on a new piece for alto saxophone and live electronics, I eagerly signed up. This piece was performed and recorded at the SPLICE Institute, a summer new music festival with a specialization in electroacoustic music. This was my first experience working with live electronics, so I hope you enjoy this piece as much as I did!

The Ocean’s Cry

Premiered on June 22nd, 2022

These wonderful pieces were written in collaboration with both CNSNC Collective and the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center for World Ocean Day in 2022. Each piece dives into a different aspect of the ocean, and this texture is reflected in the various extended techniques used by all the instrumentalists. It was an immense pleasure to work with such talented composers and musicians on this project, and I hope you enjoy it too!

Parable of Causality

Premiered on May 23rd, 2022

This piece blends the synthesized voice of the composer, Peter Pachak-Robie, with the saxophone to create an extremely eerie texture. It came about from a mutual love for metal bands, and it explores the concept of free will through the juxtaposition of the fixed media and the expressive saxophone. This was a wonderful project to work on, and I’m happy to share the final recording!

Mysterious Morning III

Recorded on October 10th, 2021

After working on this piece for a while, I decided that it warranted a wonderful recording. An exercise in virtuosity, this piece written by Fuminori Tanada in 1996 for famous French saxophonist, Claude Delangle, pushes the player’s technique and control over the soprano saxophone.
